I saw this film last night. All I can say is that I do like naval films like those of the 60's and 70's. This film plays tribute to those, However since it does do that, the film feels outdated and after its time. It also seemed like everyone in the theater was like "too much plot not enough violence". Geez, is that what people want these days? My opinion is that you need a plot build up towards the violence. Otherwise the violence just feels tacked on. Master and COmmander does this very well. C'mon people, it's early 1800's naval battles! They don't have an advanced system for tracking down a tiny ship in a vast ocean. It's all gut instinct. OR IS THAT TOO SLOW MOVING OF A PLOT FOR PEOPLE? OKay, I liked this film just because I have a passion for the old British navies. I used to be able to name each and every rigging on a ship, name their class and identify the ship parts. Well, I give this a 3/5. Watch this movie during a cheap matinee or in the discount theater. Oh and that 12 year old kid was badass.
