I thought this movie was awesome.
I dont know how long its been out in America but its only just been released here in Australia. So sorry if this review is a little out of date.
This movie reminded me of movies such as Dances with wolves, the Patriot (Mel Gibson) and Braveheart. But with Samurai's ... Suh-weet.
Tom Cruise plays the seasoned Civil War vetran who is payed buy the emperor to train his army to eraticate the Samurai who are in protest with the trade deal to America.
When Cruise is captured by the enemy Samurai, he soon relises that the life of the Samurai is a much better one to follow than that of his fellow Americans so he chooses to fight with them.
The rest of the plot is pritty much predictable, with a few amazing battle scences thrown in, some Ninja's and a few one liners - 'Bob'. One battle scene reminded me of the one in the Patriot where the Rebels fall back and the British send their armies in to destroy them but the rebels had more men hiding.
All in all a rather enjoyable movie. 7.5/10
If you've seen it tell please tell me what you thought of it

this is my review from my forum:
I was thoroughly impressed with this film. I mean, I thought, Tom Cruise... hmm... Mission Impossible 2... hmm. But no, this film was a corker. Ok, I'm usually a sucker for amazingly choreographed kung fu/karate/other oriental style fights and this film has its fair share of it. the war scenes kinda dragged a bit though, and the film didn't really make Colonel Bagley despisable enough. But I did get a kick out of the subtext of "American isn't always correct" and "screw capitalism!"
